Buzzard's Bay Post Gets Life Raft Demo

Attendees of the BBP Luncheon on October 26th got a special treat.  Larry Hall had an old 8 man raft that was headed for the dump, but it was waylaid for one final mission: a demonstration of how to inflate a life raft and there's photographic evidence that it still worked!

New Member Dinner, October 18, 2018

The Boston Station tried a new venue for the New Member Dinner this year, moving from the Dedham Country Club south of Boston to the Seaglass Restaurant in Salisbury, MA.  People coming from north of Boston thought it was a great change, those coming from the south, not so much.  In any case we had a wonderful event at which we welcomed fifteen new members with a total turnout of about 70 people.  The evening was also the occasion for the presentation of the Circumnavigation Pennant to Roger Block and Amy Jordan.

Columbus Weekend Gam

The Columbus Weekend Gam was held in Hadley Harbor on the Saturday afternoon and followed by a gathering at Beverly Yacht Club for cocktails and dinner on Sunday evening. At Hadley we had the opportunity to visit the two boatsheds ashore by the old pier and inspect years of wooden boats and varnish work. Hadley has five of the first delivery of the Herreshoff 12 1/2's  from 1914 and has kept them in remarkable original condition.

Presentation of Circumnavigation Pennant to Frank Blair

Frank Blair (far right) received the Circumnavigation Pennant from Commodore Brad Willauer (far left) and Boston Station Rear Commodore Tim Surgenor (2nd from right) at the WoodenBoat Gam in Brooklin, Maine on 8/15/18.  Ed Van Keuren (2nd from left) received his pennant earlier and flew it for the first time as he entered the harbor for the Gam

Winter Dinner

The Boston Station had a good turnout of 56 people for our Winter Dinner at the Union Club on January 25, 2018.  The venue was a beautiful spot on the 5th floor overlooking Boston Common and as always the Union Club took good care of us with an excellent dinner and good drinks.  After dinner we had a presentation from CCA member and Blue Water Award winner Michael Johnson, who showed slides of his 2013-2014 transit of the Northwest Passage in his schooner Gitana.  Although the long-term trend has been for less ice in the Passage, 2013 and 2014 were two of the most...

Boston Station Members

Happy New Year to all of you! It was great to see many of you at the recent Annual Meeting and New Members dinner which was held on November 16, 2017. During the dinner we were introduced to new members Murray Beach, Allen Breed, Dale Bruce, Zdenka Griswold, Michael Mariner, Joseph McGettigan, and Onne van der Wal. Christopher Museler was not able to attend due to a last minute conflict, but we hope to see him at a future event. Because the timing of this dinner was slightly later in the year than normal, one very...
